Chapel of Santa Barbara

Santa Barbara, Barichara

Located in the upper part of Barichara, the Chapel of Santa Barbara is an architectural jewel of the eighteenth century that reflects the historical and cultural richness of the municipality. Built in carved stone, its façade and structure have witnessed the passage of time, making it an emblem of the local heritage.

Currently, the chapel is in the process of restoration due to deterioration of its infrastructure. In October 2023, part of its roof collapsed, leading to its temporary closure to ensure the safety of visitors and to allow for recovery work. These interventions seek to preserve this important monument for future generations.

In front of the chapel is the Santa Barbara Park, a space that invites to rest and contemplation. In this park stands a majestic ceiba tree more than 250 years old, whose imposing presence offers shade and a serene atmosphere. In addition, there is the Monumento al Buey (Monument to the Ox), a stone sculpture that pays homage to these animals, which are fundamental in the agricultural work of the region.

Although visits to the interior of the chapel are restricted during the restoration process, the park and its surroundings are still accessible, offering visitors an enriching experience in this emblematic corner of Barichara.
